Barry first attended OUUC in 1996, shortly after moving to Olympia. He realized he was in the right place when he saw the banners of different religions hanging in the sanctuary – he always believed the Buddhist philosophy that there are many paths to the same goal. After becoming a member in 1997, he was asked to be an advisor for YRUU, the high-school youth group of that time. As a YRUU Advisor, he participated in the “beta” class of high-school OWL. He helped start the Gen-X PlUUs group in the late 90’s and was a facilitator for the initial Small Group Ministry at OUUC, where he met his wife Zibby. He was also a member (and occasional chair) of the Committee on Ministry, Communications Committee, and Worship Arts Committee. He’s helped data entry at the Auction off and on for many years and has been part of the congregation’s IT support team. Recently he has taught OWL for 4th & 5th grade, and pre-K & 1st grades. He’s currently an advisor for the Middle School, where his son John attends.
